Platelet-rich plasma treatment is a non-invasive procedure done in the office. It can be done in different ways,
One way is which is very common called vampires facial. In this process superficial micro-needling is done on the skin, later on, platelet-rich plasma is applied topically on the skin surface.
Sometimes micro-needling pen itself loaded with PRP injected into the superficial layers of the skin simultaneously.
The most effective long-lasting treatment with PRP is to inject intradermally in the skin.
PRP will increase youthful skin thickness and elasticity, leads to less appearance of wrinkles. It enhances the deposition of elastic fibers by the growth factors of the platelets which in turn also attracts the stem cells of the body to enhance further rejuvenation.
Biopsies revealed new collagen formation and thickness of the epidermis by 27%
It increases the number of fibroblasts that are responsible for the formation of collagen.
It improves the texture of the skin and color by improving the blood vessels in the skin
It also reduces mild-to-moderate wrinkles of the nasolabial folds and marionette lines.
In our office, we combine platelet-rich plasma intradermal injections with Morpheus 8 Inmode radiofrequency micro-needling at least 3 weeks intervals.
Patient history is taken, blood is drawn from the vein and centrifuge by using Emcyte advanced centrifuge which yields 7-9 times platelets which have 10-14 growth factors and also attracts the wound body stem cells to get desired results. Meanwhile, the patient’s face is cleaned by alcohol, lidocaine, and tetracaine combination cream applied on the area of the treatment for 60 minutes, after attaining local anesthesia we remove the cream and clean the area of treatment. We inject PRP on the area of treatment intradermally. Later on, we applied the hydrophilic cream for 3 days. We advised the patient to protect the skin from sunburn and the downtime is 3-4 days for healing. After 3-4 days the patient can apply sunblock with SPF of more than 30%.
It takes approximately 3 months (12 weeks) to see the improvement because the platelets have to increase or transform into the fibroblasts which in turn produces collagen and elastin.
These treatments are not very effective under the eyes, lips, etc. This treatment can be done on the face, neck, arms, decollete, dorsal aspect of the hands.
The treatment is done every 4 weeks and can be done 3-4 times in succession depending upon the patient’s condition. Treatment can be repeated once a year for maintenance because aging is a continuous process.
